Cruising in Seward - Part 1

We were able to book seats on the 7.5 hour glacier and wildlife cruise out of Seward through the Kenai Fjords National Park Cruises by Major Marine Tours.      We had two Park Rangers on board who gave us lots of information about the area and information about all the wildlife we saw.       What a fun day!

There are very few things on my "lifetime" bucket list, but one of them is to see Puffins.    Check that one off....................

As we were leaving the harbor, this Eagle was perched nearby.     Even though we see lots of Eagles in the Midwest, it is always a treat to see one up close.

We saw many rocks with sea lions.      They really enjoy sunning themselves!       They are totally oblivious to our boat going by.

There are two types of Puffins here.     The Horned Puffin (which most of us are familiar with) and the Tufted Puffin.     The horned puffins get their name by the small horns which appear over each eye.

These Kittiwakes nest on the rock ledges.    What a sight to see hundreds of them nesting.     At one point something (not us) frightened them and most of them flew off.     What a sight.

This Sea Lion was king of his domain

A pair of Puffins.    I smile every time I see them

We saw several glaciers on our tour.      They continue to amaze me.      There are several closer pictures in tomorrow's photos.

Seaplanes are used extensively in Alaska.     There are many areas that are not accessible by road, and many other areas are just too far away to drive.

Tomorrow, more pictures from our cruise out of Seward, AK

  1. What a fabulous cruise - I didn't get to see any puffins...so it's fun to live vicariously through your photos.
