Our journey continues into Canada, but first we wanted to take a stop in Bellingham, WA. Our original plan was to spend the night here and explore, but we were unable to get a room. As we came through this morning we chose to explore Whatcom Park. What a treasure to have within your city.
The rhododendron are in full bloom. Most of the plants are much larger than those we see in the Midwest.
These ferns look familiar. My friend, Cheryl, used to have an entire hillside of these.
I loved the root system of this water side tree.
Our day continued with a very quick entrance into Canada. I'm so glad we weren't going into the U.S.A. The lines were very long (I'm guessing a 2-3 hour wait) and had several times as many agents. It appeared they were looking for someone.
We are staying at a hotel not too far from the Ferry we will take tomorrow. Tonight we found a place called Flying Beaver Bar & Grill. Our kind of place! It was on the water and was the "airport" for seaplanes. Five or Six took off while we were there.
At one point, RJ pointed out two eagles diving into the water for dinner. A perfect location for this couple from the Midwest.
Dinner was Halibut Tacos with mango salsa, chipolte aioli & coleslaw and an order of Calamari with pureed jalapenos, garlic & ginger. Not as good as the calamari in Vegas, but a good meal.
A very nice day.....................
It's amazing humidity will do for rhododendrons. Glad you are close to the ferry. ENJOY! Sad to have missed you while you were in the hood. I guess since Queen Jester got to see you, she decided the rest of us didn't need to... :(
ReplyDeleteNo, the Queen Jester just wasn't able to round everybody up during Marti's short short stay in the area.
