The Icefields Parkway

Today we left Jasper and are on our way to Lake Louise.

Peyto Lake was incredible.     I can see why this is reputed to be one of the most photographed lakes in the world.

We made several small stops along the way, but our major destination was the Columbia Icefield where we had reservations to take their crazy buses out onto the icefield.

If you look carefully, you can see the buses making their way to the icefields.

We were all encouraged to fill our water bottles and drink this glacier water.      I cupped my hand and drank a little.    I was cautious because in Alaska they told us there were microorganisms in the glacial water and we should not drink it.

These are the special buses that are designed to take you onto the icefields.     They are very expensive and the company can only manufacture one per year.     This company owns all that have been manufactured except one, and that is used by the government for the polar ice station.       Tires are priced at $5,000 each.    Yikes!

This waterfall was amazing.

This next waterfall, Bridal Veil Falls, was right along the road.

There were so many beautiful areas on our drive today.     I would be thrilled to do it all over again!

This waterfall was one of my favorites.    We drove by it and had to turn around to stop and really look at it.

As I said on an earlier post, every lake is beautiful and unique.

If you made it this far, congratulations.     That was a lot of pictures to go through.     Believe me, I edited this down a lot............
