Hoover Dam

A trip to Las Vegas wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Hoover Dam.

Did you know that the finished dam contains enough concrete to build a two-lane highway from Seattle to Miami?      At any given time of the day or night, 5000 men would be working on this project and it was completed nearly two years ahead of schedule, taking less than 5 years to complete.     A total of 21,000 men worked on building the dam, with 107 losing their lives.

After September 11, commercial traffic was immediately banned from U.S. 93 across Hoover Dam, forcing a 75-mile detour. The urgency to build a bridge accelerated.    Work on the $114 million bridge started on Valentine's Day 2005 and the bridge opened to traffic in October 2010.

The bridge took longer to complete than the dam.     Amazing!
