Castles and Skye

The bridge going over to Isle of Skye is a beautiful site.    It has been open about 18 years according to our Host.    It closes now and then (like today) to high sided vehicles because of the winds.    Fortunately, our little rental car is safe to go.     Prior to the bridge, you needed to take the ferry across, which many people still do to save driving the extra miles.

A couple miles before you get to the bridge, is one of the most photographed sites in Scotland, the Eilean Donan Castle.     This icon is used on countless brochures and postcards about the area, as well as being in the James Bond movie “The World is not Enough”.    We are trying to limit the number of visits to castles, so this is just our second “inside” visit.    Unfortunately, they do not allow any photographs inside the castle.

We are staying for two nights in the southern part of the Isle, so we decided to travel on a few of the back roads.     Hope you enjoy the pictures…

We will leave tomorrow for the northern part of the Isle….

  1. Please don't limit the number of castles you see, they are breathtaking. I like that you're snapping some shots of animal life finally!

  2. Please visit every castle you can and share with us! I will never be able to see them otherwise!
