DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND
This dramatic South Island town offers a mix of unique beauty and fascinating history. The Victorian and Edwardian architecture dates from its days as a gold rush town.
We decided to explore the town ourselves today, primarily because there was a local microbrewery that we were anxious to try.
We set off with our trusty map until we reached this intersection. We knew we were very close, but didn't see the brewery or any signs. We decided it must be on the diagonal corner, so, yes, we started up this hill. Yes, it's as steep as it looks.
Needless to say, it took a while. Remember, this was before my pacemaker. We took a left at the top (by the orange roofed house) as planned and when we reached the next corner, there was a sign indicating the brewery was left at the bottom of the hill.
Chalk that up as our workout for the day. We could have avoided the hill entirely if we has gone left instead of up that hill.
Speichts was a beautiful restaurant/brewery. We ordered lunch and relaxed for a while.
We found several murals/street art in the city. These two were favorites.
